Level up your volunteering with Huron River Watershed Council by becoming a sample collector for our next River Roundup!
Our trained volunteer leaders and collectors are what make our River Roundups great! If you have already experienced a River Roundup, please consider training to be a team Leader/Collector. The training consists of three parts:
Leader Training: The first hour we will discuss the river system, hydrology, and general HRWC information.
Bug Show: Learn about all the bugs– where they live, what they eat, and how healthy the ecosystem is depending on what insects we find.
Collector Training: We will carpool to a nearby site and practice collection techniques in the stream to thoroughly search for bugs in all kinds of habitats. Be ready to practice bug sampling in the river, rain or shine. Waders provided.
Qualifications:You only need to have experienced a Roundup or Stonefly Search before becoming a Leader/Collector. Teachers who want to learn collecting techniques for classroom use are welcome to join us with permission from Jason: email firstname.lastname@example.org.
