Aquatic Plant Sampling!

HRWC is pleased to be a partner of the Michigan Clean Water Corps, which leads Michigan’s premier volunteer lake monitoring program, the Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (the CLMP).  Starting in January 2021, registration will open on the MiCorps website for volunteers to enroll themselves into this program.

Through CLMP, lake residents can monitor their lakes for a variety of parameters:

  1. Secchi Disk Transparency
  2. Chlorophyll-a
  3. Total Phosphorus
  4. Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature
  5. Exotic Plants
  6. Full Plant Mapping
  7. Score the Shore (lake habitat assessment)

HRWC is part of the core leadership team of MiCorps, and can answer questions regarding the program and guide volunteers in getting involved. To do so, look at the top of the webpage and click the “Contact” button, and send HRWC a brief message.  We will get back you!

The following are files used in 2020 Lake Monitoring that may still be needed.

Secchi Disk:  Secchi Disk Transparency can be conducted the same as always. Training is not required. You can view a training video here. You do not need to enroll; simply record your measurements and hold onto them. If you need a new Secchi Disk, please visit MLSA at: https://mymlsa.org/2020-volunteer-lake-monitoring-for-michigan/
