Our vision is a vibrant, robust and fully restored Huron River—a destination for residents and visitors.

RiverUp! is a campaign to restore and revitalize the Huron River. It is a signature place-making initiative that seeks to transform the Huron River corridor into a premier destination in Michigan and the Great Lakes. HRWC leads this public + private partnership. Our RiverUp! projects improve river health, recreation access, and water-related investments in local economies.

Highlights of Accomplishments

  • The Huron River Water Trail (HRWT) was designated as the 18th National Water Trail in 2015. HRWC manages the HRWT program.
  • 15 river access projects completed—and that number is growing (dam portages, canoe and kayak launches, kiosks and signs)
  • Getting local buy-in. Our capital campaign has raised more than $2.5 million for RiverUp!
  • 2.5 Million visitor trips annually to the river corridor
  • 5 Trail Towns to welcome trail users and 5 new trail-related local businesses to meet the needs of river recreationists
