Soil in runoff is a pollutant which can negatively impact the Huron River and its tributaries. Join HRWC’s River Scouts and other outdoor advocates to learn the ins and outs of soil erosion from local experts. Ken Recker, Livingston County Drain Commissioner’s office, Mark St.Charles, Green Oak Township, and Dennis Wojcik, Washtenaw County Water Resource Commissioner’s Office, will discuss applicable regulations; highlight the Good, Bad, and Ugly soil erosion controls; and share how you can reduce soil erosion in your community. Experience the quiet waters of the Huron River with expert paddlers Ron Sell, Barry Lonik, Gerry Neumeier and HRWC staff. The paddle from Proud Lake State Recreation Area to Island Lake State Recreation Area includes discussion regarding the river’s water ecology, history and unique features.

Wetlands are the ecological buffers of the Huron River and its tributaries. They collect runoff and filter it before it gets into a nearby stream or groundwater. Join HRWC’s River Scouts and other outdoor advocates to learn what regulations protect wetlands, how to identify if someone is breaking those rules, and how to be an advocate for these marvelous ecosystems.
