River Scouts: Be a creek walker!
WHAT: We want you to “Adopt” a stream in the Huron River Watershed! Throughout the summer months of June, July, and August, you and your team will participate in numerous activities that will help HRWC better understand the problems and highlights of the creeks in our watershed. You can form your own team, or ask to be placed on a team.
Activities:
1. Attend the River Scout kick-off meeting on June 9 from 2-4 pm.
2. June: Make an exploratory site visit to cataloging plants and animals, taking pictures, recording potential stream issues, and installing a thermometer.
3. July and August: The team will walk or paddle ½ to 1 mile upstream (in July) and downstream of the site (in August). The group will pick up trash, look for potential problems, take temperature and conductivity readings throughout, and use a GPS unit to record these problems. This data will help HRWC make management recommendations and potentially start new restoration projects.
WHEN: June 9, 2-4 for the training, and then 3 half-days in June, July, and August, as determined by each team.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 7.
