- Change the patterns of development in the watershed to preserve and protect it
- Advocate for open space protection and for greater development/density where the infrastructure already exists
- Preserve large, continuous areas of absorbent open space
- Preserve critical ecological areas, such as wetlands, floodplains, and riparian corridors
- Minimize overall land disturbance and impervious surface
- Involve citizens of the watershed in conservation and river monitoring; and
- Educate and empower citizens of the watershed with the knowledge that their individual actions are a powerful force in improving the watershed
