  • HRWC was recognized in 2004 for leadership in volunteer monitoring when the MDEQ (now the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources and Environment) awarded us a contract to administer a new statewide volunteer water monitoring program called the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps).
  • MiCorps contains two main parts: the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program (VSMP) and the Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP).
  • Under the VSMP, HRWC has helped 28 stream groups across the state develop and augment their volunteer stream monitoring programs.
  • Under the CLMP, HRWC works with the Michigan DNRE and the Michigan Lake and Stream Associations to teach lake volunteers to take nutrient measurements and plant surveys of their lakes. Over 225 Michigan lakes are currently enrolled.
