PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

The Lower Huron River needs you! As a local citizen and resident of the Lower Huron River Watershed, you have many opportunities to act on behalf of your community’s waterways. Your involvement is an important component of a good watershed management plan. It takes informed citizens to understand how to preserve and enhance the living legacy of our waterways. It also takes informed citizens to support using local dollars to implement the plan.

GIVE INPUT
The LHRWIC hosted 3 public information meetings during the watershed management planning process. The first meeting was held November 2004 as an introduction of the process to attendees.

The second meeting was held May 2005. At the May meeting an update on findings about watershed health and priorities for protecting the watershed was provided. Residents were encouraged to provide their input. Links to the press release for this meeting, summary notes and the handout are at the lower right hand section of this page.

The third meeting was held September 2005 to present the recommendations of the pan and to request comments on the draft plan prior to preparation of the final plan and submission to the State of Michigan and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Links to the meeting poster and agenda are at the lower right hand section of this page.

INVESTIGATE THE HEALTH OF THE RIVER NEAR YOU
The Adopt-A-Stream program has terrific activities for people of all ages; we welcome you to join us and try one of them to see how we study the river. Check it out at www.hrwc.org/adopt.
