ALLIANCE OF DOWNRIVER WATERSHEDS (ADW)

The communities and other stakeholders in the Lower Huron River watershed have been working together for several years within the LHRWIC to manage the area’s water resources on a watershed basis and to comply with Phase II storm water regulations.

A new watershed organization, consisting of the public agencies in the Lower Huron River watershed and the neighboring Combined Downriver and Ecorse Creek watersheds, was formed to be consistent with Watershed Alliance legislation (Public Act 517 of the Public Laws of 2004). This organization seeks to consolidate services for its members and the existing Advisory Group of each watershed, and to facilitate implementation of the management plans developed for each watershed and submitted to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (see the Watershed Plan webpage for more information about the Lower Huron River Watershed Management Plan).

A subcommittee composed of members of the Inter-Municipality Committees for the Ecorse Creek, Combined Downriver, and Lower Huron River watersheds drafted bylaws to form this new watershed organization for the three downriver watersheds. These bylaws were subsequently reviewed by each the Inter-Municipality Committee for each watershed and are now available for review by the governing body of each potential member. Since over 50% of the potential members have passed supporting resolutions, the Alliance was initiated.
